Ronald J. Mapstone STONE RIDGE- Ronald J. (Mapper) Mapstone, peacefully from home, Ron was called to the Lord July 24, 2013 after a valiant struggle with brain cancer. He was 78. Surviving are his beloved family: Pat, his wife of 55 years; their daughter, Rhonda Growney, her husband, Ken, and their children, Eric, Brynne and Cameron of Highland Mills, N.Y.; their son, Greg, his wife, Stacy, and their sons Nathaniel and Asher of Shokan; brothers, Donald and his wife, Delores of Lakeland, Florida and Edward and his wife, Alma of Manlius, N.Y.; sister, Trish O'Neil and her husband, Chuck of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sisters-in-law Ida of Manlius, N.Y. and Joan of Minoa, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceasing were his parents, Alma and Henry Mapstone; brothers, Chuck and Gene; and sister, Charlotte Houck. A graduate of SUNY Oswego, Ron was privileged for 29 years to teach Industrial Arts and also to give many hours to student and facility activities at Rondout Valley High School. He retired in 1990. Ron was a devoted congregant of Marbletown Reformed Church for 51 years. He served our community 42 years with Stone Ridge Fire Company, 12 years with Marbletown First Aid Squad and many years with Rondout Valley Little League, Boy Scouts of America, Red Cross blood drives, Fairview Cemetery Board, and the Stone Ridge Library. He was a member of Rondout Valley Rod and Gun Club, Marbletown Republican Club, and Northeastern Woodworkers' Association. Friends are invited to call 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 at the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., 2053 Rt 32 in Rosendale. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Marbletown Reformed Church on Sunday, July 28 at 3 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery.
