Mary Ann Avallone SAUGERTIES- Mary Ann Avallone, 72, of Wilhelm Road Saugerties, died suddenly Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at her home. Born Sept. 3, 1941 in West Virginia, she is the daughter of Nellie (Dent) Naccarato of Saugerties and the late Shannings Moore. Mary Ann received her bachelor’s degree in 1963 from West Virginia Wesleyan College and in 1968 her master’s degree from SUNY New Paltz. She began her 37 year teaching career in the Kingston Consolidated School District in 1963, teaching primarily biology at the J. Watson Bailey School. She retired in 2000. She was an avid antique collector and dealer, operating a booth at the Coxsackie Antique Center. Mary Ann also had a passion for going to yard sales. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 48 years, Donn Avallone of Saugerties; a son, Blake Avallone of Albany, N.Y.; a daughter, Carrie Merritt of Kingston; a grandson, Dominic Merritt; brother, Shannings Moore, Jr. and his wife Emelia of Hurley; and a nephew, Shane Moore of Chicago, Ill. Memorial arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Avenue. A memorial gathering will be held Monday from 4 to 7 .m. Cremation was held at the Wiltwyck Crematory. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the Katsbaan Reformed Church, Ladies Aid Society, C/O 1767 Old Kings Highway, Saugerties, N.Y., 12477.
