Michael P. Riley, Sr. EAST GREENBUSH- After a lengthy illness, Michael P. Riley, Sr., 75, passed away on Feb. 17, 2014, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson. Born on May 3, 1938 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Francis X. Riley and Margaret Lane Riley. He grew up in Albany, graduating from Christian Brothers Academy and Siena College. After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, he dedicated his professional life to journalism and public relations, working initially as a reporter and writer for the Long Island Catholic newspaper, and then for many years as a communications officer for the State University of New York (SUNY) Central Administration and SUNY Research Foundation. He was a devoted communicant of the Church of St. Mary, serving on the Parish Council, the Liturgy Committee, and as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Catechist for RCIA. Above all else, his family was most important and he is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, M. Rosalie (Leonard) Riley; his children, Michael (Allison Doney) Riley of Ithaca, Erin (John Garesché) Riley of Kingston, Deirdre (David) Thomson of Hopedale, Mass.; his grandchildren, Briana Douglas, Cameron Riley, Riley Thomson, Devon Thomson; and step-grandchild, Sylvan Garesché. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 163 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer, N.Y. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer, N.Y.
