Robert C. Cook LAKE KATRINE- Robert C. “Cookie” Cook, 83, of Brigham Lane, Lake Katrine, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at HealthAlliance Hospital, Broadway Campus. Cookie was born in Tannersville, on Oct. 8, 1930, a son of the late Lester and Charlotte (Peck) Cook. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and life member of VFW Post 1386, Cookie always proudly talked about his service experience, especially when his homebound ship was forced to a different route, encountering the “biggest blue whales in the world”. For over 30 years, Cookie was employed as a truck driver, and also in the tree service business, meals on wheels, and as a bus driver for Mulligan Bus Service. He loved fishing, hunting, and camping, and enjoyed ole-time country music. He was a deacon of the Reformed Church of Port Ewen, and formerly served as a Sunday school teacher in Windham. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Genther) Cook; one daughter, Cindy L. Calder (Russell) of Campobello, New Brunswick; a son, Thomas R. Cook (Sandy) of Augusta, Maine; two stepdaughters, Eileen Pickens of Lake Katrine, and Nancy Green (Gary) of Ulster; three stepsons, Steven Grim (Marie) of Pa., Clifford Pickens (Debbie) of Ill., and Michael Pickens of Provincetown, Mass.; one brother, Bernard Cook (Sunshine) of Kingston; one sister, Jean Pickens (Clifford) of Pa.; and one sister-in-law, Geraldine Cook of Rhinebeck. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He is predeceased by one sister, Rose Haines, and three brothers, Clinton, Gilbert and Wallace Cook. A service will be held 3:30 p.m., Saturday, at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Rev. Charles Stickley, officiating. Memorial visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cremation was held at Wiltwyck Crematory.
