Clarence Wilber Obituary

Clarence Wilber KINGSTON- Clarence W. Wilber, 89, of Kingston, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Kingston, to the late Floyd Wilber and Anita Aird nee Wolven. Known to friends and family as “Will,” he was married for almost 60 years to Caroline Wilber nee Mazzuca, until her passing on Jan. 13, 2007. They both were avid New York Yankee baseball fans, and followed their grandchildren’s sports careers faithfully. During World War II, Will served his country at Bradley Field, Connecticut in the United States Army Air Corps as a mechanic on P-47s. He worked as bus driver for Pine Hill Trailways in Kingston for 33 years, driving a route from New York City to Cooperstown, before retiring in 1987. Loving his job and getting acquainted with many of the passengers on his route, he received numerous safety awards, such as the “Million Miles, Accident Free” designation. Loving father and grandfather (Pop-Pop, Poppy, Pop), Clarence is survived by William W. Wilber and his wife Teresa of Tulsa, Okla., Jane R. Smedes of Kingston; grandchildren, Scott A. Wilber and his wife Elizabeth Asdorian, William W. Wilber, Jr. and his wife Sally, Carrie A. Carner and her husband Doug, Grant F. Wilber, Gary R. Short and his wife Danielle, and Amanda J. Smedes; six great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his son, Robert C. Wilber; his son-in-law, Michael E. Smedes; and his brother, Darwin Wilber. Clarence is remembered for having a quiet and thoughtful approach to life. His high school yearbook saying, “In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” He was lighthearted and carefree. His joking was funny and quirky and his smile and laugh were contagious. His wit and sense of humor will be missed. Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, where friends and family may visit on Sunday July 27, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday July 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
