William H. Green ScotiaWilliam H. Green, 69, of Scotia, NY passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Peters Hospital in Albany after a short illness. Born on July 18, 1943 in Hornell, NY, he was the son of the late Howard and Margaret Norton Green. After high school William went to work for a short time with the railroad until being drafted into the United States Marine Corp. and serving during the Vietnam War Era. After his service in the military, William went back to work for the railroad, working first for Erie Lackawanna Railroad, which later became Conrail, where he worked for over 25 years. Then in 1986 William took a position with the New York State Department of Transportation Rail Safety Division, until his retirement in 2009. Survivors include his wife, Karen L. Duncan Green, whom he married on September 6, 1969; two sons, Scott (Jennifer) Green and Adam Green, both of Binghamton, NY; three grandchildren, Kaleb, Riley and Caeran Green; his brother, Ronald (Deloras) Green of St. Charles, MO; and his aunt, Virginia Ellis of Hornell, NY; and many nephews, nieces, and other family members. Throughout his life, Bill was an avid volunteer in both of his sons' youth sports organization. Many young men benefited from his support of groups like Alden Junior Football, Alden Youth Little League and the Adirondack Three-style Wrestling Association. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and the entire family will cherish summers spent at Lake Otsego in Cooperstown. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. at The White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston, Ave., Scotia. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5 until 6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
