Grace Tangerone SchenectadyGrace Tangerone, 91, of Cutler St., died at her home December 27, 2013, with her family at her bedside. Born in Schenectady, Grace grew up in Rotterdam where she attended Draper High School. She was the daughter of the late Donato and Mary Crescent Pirro Guarino. She attended Child's Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a L.P.N. at Ellis Hospital. She married her husband of 63 years, Lebro Tangerone on June 4, 1950. After her children were big enough, she went to work for Dr. Mele at Schenectady Pediatric's in Bellevue. Grace was a lifelong advocate for our nation's veterans and served unselfishly for the Veteran of Foreign Wars at Post 1895 (Draper). She was president with the Schenectady-Schoharie County VFW; past president of the 3rd District and very involved with the American Legion. Grace was a member of the Military Order of the Cooties, a volunteer with Stratton VA Medical Center and active with the Independent Order of the Oddfellows. Above all, family values were important to her. She was a communicant of St. Cyril, St. Methodius, and St. Thomas the Apostle Churches until they closed. Grace enjoyed camping and gardening has a hobby. Grace was predeceased by her sister, Madeline DiCaprio; and her brother, Gaetano Guarino. Survivors include her loving husband, Lebro; her daughter, Donna M. West (Thomas) of Glenville; her son, Anthony C. Tangerone (Sharon) of Rotterdam; cherished grandchildren, Lee, Nicole and David West, and Paul and Jaclyn (Nicholas) Esposito. Grace is survived by her sisters, Marion Collins and Irene Larabee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (January 3) at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd., East Glenville, with Rev. Jerry Gingras (Pastor) as celebrant. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and may also call Thursday (January 2) 4 to 7 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Veteran's Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
