Varley, Ruth (Fairbairn)  
Ruth (Fairbairn) Varley Niskayuna Ruth (Fairbairn) Varley of Niskayuna, NY died on April 17, 2015. Ruth was born in Buffalo, NY and after she finished her schooling, she worked in the Biology Department at the University of Buffalo. After her marriage, she moved to Troy, NY where she worked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She later moved to Niskayuna and then to Manaus, Brazil, New York City and Tarrytown, NY, before returning to Niskayuna. She was an active community volunteer both in Tarrytown and Niskayuna, where she became interested in Literacy Volunteers and tutored and held other responsibilities for over 25 years. She also volunteered her time for the Schenectady Inner City Ministries at the food pantry. Ruth will be remembered for her love of animals, expansive hospitality and her willingness to help others. Her husband, Robert R. Varley, predeceased her in 1991. Survivors are her cousins, Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd W. Swift Jr. of Franklin, NC and their children and grandchildren. Also her godson, Jonathan Peace and his wife, Terri of Clifton Park, NY. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, NY, at the convenience of the family. Verdile, Marie F.  
Marie F. Verdile Saratoga Springs Mrs. Marie F. Verdile, 79, of Glenmore Ave., and former longtime resident of Mechanicville, died Saturday, April 18th at her home, in the loving company of her family. Born in Mechanicville, June 4, 1935, daughter of the late Dominick and Angela Forte, she was a 1952 graduate of Mechanicville High School and Albany Business College. After raising her five children, Marie worked for 20 years for the NYS Dept. of Education in Albany. An avid reader, Marie was a member of the Junior Dante Club and a communicant of Assumption St. Paul Church in Mechanicville. Marie's legacy was forever taking care of her loving family, her loving grandchildren and her siblings and their families. Survivors include her husband of almost 60 years, Charles L. Verdile; children, Louis and Connie Verdile of Fountain Hill, AZ, Lynn and John Teal of Clifton Park, Maribeth and Paul Cook of Saratoga Springs, Mark and Nancy Verdile of East Greenbush and Chuck and Lisa Verdile of Burlington, MA. Grandchildren, Stephanie (Ben) Morrisey, Marissa, Alicia, Anthony and Olivia Verdile, Mia Teal and Charlie Verdile. Also brothers-in-law, Chris Sgambati of Mechanicville and Albert Giamei of Troy; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Verdile of Mechanicville; along with nieces, nephews and their families. Marie was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Forte; and sisters, Rose Fargnoli, Anna Cavotta, Mary Forte, Adeline Giamei and Lucy Sgambati. A funeral Mass will be held at noon on Wednesday at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville, with burial at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours at the North Main Street Church on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project. Vollero Sr., James A.  
James A. Vollero Sr. GloversvilleJames A. Vollero Sr., age 74, of Sun Valley Rd., Gloversville, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2015 with his family by his side at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY, after a long illness. Born in Gloversville on August 2, 1940, he was a lifelong area resident and the son of the late Anthony and Leona Young Vollero. He attended Gloversville High School. He enlisted in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. Jim was stationed in Munich, Germany during the Cold War while the Berlin Wall was being constructed. He achieved the rank of sergeant E-5. He drove a tank in the 34th armored division. Jim was employed in the leather industry for 33 years working for several area companies. He also worked for Mohawk Furniture, retiring in 1999. On June 27, 1964 Jim married the love of his life, the former JoAnn Julian, and she survives him. His loving family includes one son, James Vollero Jr. (Katherine) of Daytona Beach, FL; one daughter, Brenda Bikowicz (Ken) of Charlton, NY; two sisters, Rose Mary (Louis) Musgrave and Shirley Vollero; five grandchildren that he loved and cherished, attending all of their sporting events, Kassandra Bikowicz, Brianne Chief Bikowicz, Kristen Bikowicz, Karamia Vollero and James Vollero III; one sister-in-law, Diane Allen Savage; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim loved to cook and going to the casinos playing cards. He was a classic car enthusiast, often attending antique car shows. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, April 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Holy Tirinity Church Glebe St., Johnstown. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.
