Ernest Michalik Obituary

The remains of Ernest Michalik were identified on April 17, 2009 a day after being found in Rotterdam. He had been reported missing on November 22, 2005 from his residence at the Schenectady YMCA. Ernest was the son of Edward and Rosina (Horender) Michalik of Fort Plain. He was born June 6, 1947 in Little Falls, NY. In 1965, after graduating from Fort Plain High School, Ernest moved to Schenectady for a brief time to work as an apprentice at GE. He returned to the family farm where he worked until 1999. When the herd was sold he moved back to Schenectady. From 1999 to 2005 Ernest worked in Schenectady area restaurants. He found friendship at the Butcher Block and at the church he attended. Ernest is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Laurence and Virginia Michalik; his sister, Kathryn; nephews, Christopher Michalik and Jonathan Michalik, all of Fort Plain. The family would like to thank the passer by who chose to get involved. Craig Fraer's mother for passing out flyers, and the Rotterdam, Schenectady Police Departments, Schenectady County Sheriff's Dept. and the NYS Police for their efforts. Burial was private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, NY.
