Carolyn B. Keefer

Carolyn B. Keefer Glenville Carolyn B. Keefer passed away peacefully on October 23, 2013 at Capstone Nursing Center at 85 years of age. Born on February 17, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harold N. and Helen Rothmyer Bishop. Carolyn attended Scotia schools and went on to Potsdam State Teacher's College, graduating from there in 1950. She taught for one year in Port Chester, NY, three years at Scotia Glenville, and 25 years at Charlton Heights Elementary School in Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. Her two years teaching at Beukendaal School, which closed in 1953, made her the last surviving school teacher from Glenville's schoolhouse era before consolidation. Carolyn was a wonderful teacher, fondly remembered as a favorite by countless students whose lives she touched. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Elizabeth and her brother, Harold. Survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Donald A. Keefer of Capstone Nursing Center; a daughter, Mary Allen of Leesburg, FL; daughter, Catherine (Patrick) Finnegan of Middle Grove, NY; grandsons, Michael B. Finnegan (Elizabeth), Daniel E. Finnegan, Christopher K. Allen, and Jonathan A. Allen; and nieces and nephews. Carolyn loved her home and community of West Glenville. She was active in the First Reformed Church of West Glenville, where singing in the choir brought her much joy. She was also a member of the West Glenville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary for many years. She was devoted to her family. There was never a more loving wife, mother, or grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and community. Carolyn's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Capstone Nursing Center for their kind and gentle care and the comfort they gave to both her and her husband during the last weeks of her life. There will be a memorial service at the First Reformed Church of West Glenville at a time to be determined. Burial will be private, with arrangements made by Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia, NY. Donations in Carolyn's memory may be made to the First Reformed Church of West Glenville, 2172 West Glenville Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the West Glenville Volunteer Fire Company, 2024 West Glenville Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
