Frank Robert Pawlowski AmsterdamMr. Frank Robert Pawlowski, 85, of Cochrane Avenue, Amsterdam, New York, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Frank was born November 6, 1927 in Amsterdam, New York, a son of the late Frank and Constance (Aksztulewicz) Pawlowski and lived his whole life in Amsterdam. He was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1945. He was an active participant in his class reunion committees for 60 years. Mr. Pawlowski was a veteran of the Army serving in World War II. Upon returning from the service he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois where he also played professional soccer. He worked at Mohawk Carpet Mills, Grand Rapids Furniture Company and the Navy Depot in Scotia. He was the manager for the Grand Union store on Guy Park Avenue for 18 years. Later, he was a salesman for Cleveland Cotton Products until his retirement in 1989. After retiring, Frank worked for Pakenas Cleaners and assisted at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home. Frank loved sports and played softball with the Polish-American Veterans, St. John's Club and Sky Harbor Tavern teams. He played soccer for the Mohawks. Throughout his life, he bowled in several leagues including the Business Men's League, Merchant League, Woodchoppers League and the Polish League. He was the secretary of the Polish League for 11 years. He organized and bowled in the Community Mixed League for the 35 years that it existed. During many of those years he served as an officer or team captain. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the City Bowling Association for 14 years, leaving as its vice president to become president of the Amsterdam Junior Bowlers. In 1983 he was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. Frank was a die-hard Yankees, Giants, Knicks and Rangers fan. He and his wife loved to dance and in their younger years won several dance contests. Like his wife, he loved to golf, bocce and play pinochle. Frank was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. He also belonged to the Sacred Heart Society, the Knights of Columbus Council 209 and the former St. John's Society. Frank is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Jaworski) Pawlowski, who he married on May 29, 1949; son, Gary Pawlowski (Rita) of Amsterdam; daughter, Donna Pawlowski (Barbara) of Rexford; granddaughter, Kristel Hodge (RJ) of Manchester, Connecticut, and Megan Pawlowski of Amsterdam; brother, David Pawlowski (Sandy) of North Syracuse; sister, Christine Gould (Dick) of Fort Collins, Colorado; sister-in-law, Josephine Jaworski; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, William Pawlowski, and Bill's wife, Ruth (Luke) Pawlowski. The funeral will be held at 8:15 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis, celebrant. Interment with military honors will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the funeral home.
