Lillian Irene Klump AmsterdamLillian Irene Klump, 85, of Daniel Street, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Lillian was born May 9, 1928 in Amsterdam, NY, a daughter of Joseph and Violet (Podlewski) Uminski. Lillian was a 1945 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and attended Bryant College in Providence, RI. On June 23, 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Klump, who predeceased her on November 6, 1995. A lifelong resident of Amsterdam, Lillian was formerly employed in retail sales by Kings Drug Store and Lurie's Department Store, as a directory assistance operator for New York Bell Telephone Company and finally as a teacher's aide in the Greater Amsterdam School System before retiring a number of years ago. She was originally a parishioner of the former St. Joseph's Church and later Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam. Lillian was a member of VFW Post 55 Women's Auxiliary. Lillian and her husband Harold built their dream house on Daniel Street in 1990 where she enjoyed countless hours cooking her special recipes, tending her vegetable garden and especially swimming in her backyard pool. Lillian and her late husband planted over three acres of pumpkins on their homestead which Lillian often hand-painted and donated to elementary school children in Amsterdam. Survivors include her son, James Klump of Amsterdam; her daughter, Susan (Tony) Amoroso of Fayetteville, GA; a sister, Eleanor Lubin of Cleveland, OH; three grandchildren, Christopher Klump of Bethlehem, PA, Jason Klump of Brewster, MA and Natalie Amoroso of Abilene, TX; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Private funeral services will be held at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti officiating. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours will be private.
