Marlowe W. Beis

Marlowe W. Beis NiskayunaMarlowe W. Beis, 93, of Niskayuna, passed away on Monday, June 17, at Baptist Health, Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a short illness. Born in Tiffin, OH, the son of Floyd M. and Emma E. Beis, Marlowe graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1937 and Tiffin University in 1939. An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific, the Philippines, and Okinawa. He was discharged as a Captain A.G.D. in 1946. Mr. Beis married Rita A. Killeen in an Army chapel at Fort Jackson, SC. They were married for 31 years. He retired in 1984 from Schenectady General Electric as a financial analyst with 45 years service. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita and his son, Mark. Survivors include four daughters, Susan Hansen (Detlef) of West Rutland, VT, Tina Gleason (Rick) of West Glenville, Barbara Beis of Clifton Park, and Constance Beis of Glenville; three sons, Marlowe E. (Deborah) of Grand Island, Stephen C. (Niki) of Palmetto, FL, and Martin A. (Caitlin Montgomery) of Hubbardton, VT; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as golf, basketball, softball, and tennis. He was a member of the Annie Schaeffer Golf League, the West Albany Rod & Gun Club, and the G.E. Quarter Century Club. Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Schenectady ARC, 214 State St., P.O. Box 2236, Schenectady, NY 12301.
