Roger J. Althiser Sr.

Roger J. Althiser Sr. SchenectadyRoger J. Althiser Sr. of Schenectady passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, after being stricken at home. Born on September 23, 1952 in Oneonta, NY, he was the son of the late Jacob and Georgiana Lane Althiser. Roger was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Roger served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Roger worked for many years with Yank Waste in Albany until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and spending time with his family. Besides his parents his was also predeceased by his wife, Sandra F. Rose Althiser, in 2012; a grandson, Scott; and a sister, Sandra Althiser. Survivors include his seven children, Lynwood (Trisha) Althiser of Broadalbin, and Sandra (Mark) Cruz, Roger (Amber Gallo) Althiser, Jennifer Althiser, Jason Althiser, Wendy (John Broussard) Althiser, and Carl (Rose) Althiser, all of Schenectady; two brothers, Ronald (Noreen) Althiser, and Michael Althiser; a sister, Nancy Althiser; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady with burial to follow in Viewland Cemetery, Rotterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. To express condolences visit
