William J. Niezgoda

William J. Niezgoda AmsterdamMr. William J. Niezgoda, 87, of Edson Street, Amsterdam, New York, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at St. Mary's Healthcare. He was born June 11, 1926 in Amsterdam, New York, a son of the late Albertus and Julianna Fura Niezgoda. He was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and attended Siena College. During World War II, Mr. Niezgoda served in the Navy as a radarman in the Pacific Theater. He was employed by Mohasco Corporation as a color dye chemist for many years. Later, he worked for the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance as a supervisor taxpayer compliance. He also operated a catering business with his brother, Joseph and sister, Mary. Bill was an avid golfer and a modest one as well, he had to be coaxed to tell the story of the three holes-in-one that he scored. He enjoyed family camping trips in the Adirondack, especially the islands of Lake George and spending time at the family camp in Galway. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. On April 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Geraldine Winkle, who survives. He is also survived by his children, David (Debbie) Niezgoda, Amsterdam, Gayle (Pat) Kelly, Cambridge, Massachusetts, William G. (Anita) Niezgoda, Schenectady, Debbie (Tom) Cambereri, Barnstable, Massachusetts, Mark (Julio Rubio) Niezgoda, New York, New York and Brian (Robin) Niezgoda, Brewster, New York; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, Carol (Greg) Fryc and Cynthia (Burges) Schriber and additional relatives. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and John Niezgoda and by his sisters, Bernice Lichorat and Mary Bush. The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church with the Rev. O. Robert De Martinis, celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the funeral home.
