William Dimpelfeld Obituary

William Anthony Dimpelfeld ScotiaWilliam Anthony Dimpelfeld, 84, of Scotia, NY, passed away January 14, 2014, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady with his children present. He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Dimpelfeld of West Hartford, CT; and his son, Philip Dimpelfeld of Columbus, IN. He was predeceased by Ruth Briggs Dimpelfeld, his wife of 55 years. He was also predeceased by his companion, Pat Lawson, of Niskayuna, NY. Bill was born in Erie, PA to Margaret Anthony Dimpelfeld and Adolph Phillip Michael (Mike) Dimpelfeld. He has lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, and New York. A graduate of Gannon College, Penn State, and Union College, he was a mechanical engineer for General Electric for over 40 years. He served in the Army for two years. He lived in Scotia, NY for 48 years. After retirement, he served as president of the Schenectady County Historical Society for five years, and was involved in the Mabee Farm. Bill was a member of the Unitarian Society for 47 years. Bill was interested in many things, even in things he wasn't interested in. He loved music, playing the piano, and sang in the Unitarian choir for 30 years. He was interested in art and architecture, and loved touring historic homes and art museums. Bill was an avid gardener; at one point he tended three gardens simultaneously. He liked taking the backroads to see the various sites of the area. He liked doing puzzles and pondering politics. Bill's kindness, wit, and intelligence will be remembered by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Society on Wendell Avenue in Schenectady. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association or to the Schenectady County Historical Society. Cards may be sent to his home or to Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
