Dr. Andrew Griswold Ostrom, 78, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 5, 2011, after a long illness. He was born October 11, 1932 in Schenectady, NY, the son of the late William and Norma Beebe Ostrom. Andrew graduated from medical school, later became an ophthalmologist, and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1962. He was stationed at Minot AFB, ND, where he was director of Professional Services. Upon release from military service, he established a private practice in Schenectady, NY. He held positions with the National Board of Medical Examiners, American Board of Ophthalmology, and Eastern NY Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Association. He was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Saratoga Springs, NY. Dr. Ostrom is survived by his loving wife, Gladys Marion Snell Ostrom. He is also survived by his children, Daniel Ostrom of Colorado, John Ostrom of Ontario, Canada, Katherine Frederick of Virginia, and twin sons, Mark Ostrom of Vermont, and Matthew Ostrom of Middle Grove, NY; and his sister, Margaret Abel of Massachusetts. He has 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, John Ostrom. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home, 2034 West St., Galway, NY, Monday, May 9, 2011, at 12 p.m. Those who wish may call at the funeral home Monday, May 9, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be following the service at the West Charlton Cemetery, corner of Rt. 67 and Rt. 147.
