Barbara J. Sniezyk BroadalbinBarbara J. Sniezyk, 92, of County Highway 126, Broadalbin, died Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2014, at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 28, 1921, a daughter of Walter and Margaret Kosiba Butler and moved to Broadalbin as a child. She was a 1939 graduate of Broadalbin High School and was a longtime Broadalbin resident. Mrs. Sniezyk was employed as a press operator at the former Decca Records, which later became MCA, in Gloversville and retired in 1983. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Broadalbin where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and a member of the former Crafters Group. Barbara was 65-year life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Broadalbin, having served as president for several years. She was also a member and past president of the Fulton County American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Sniezyk was a member of the Broadalbin Senior Citizens. Barbara enjoyed attending American Legion conventions with her husband as well as traveling with the Seniors. She was married to John S. Sniezyk on June 22, 1946. He died June 3, 1995. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Walter Butler, who died July 16, 2002. Survivors include three sons, John W. (Rosemarie) Sniezyk of Averill Park, Gary S. (Mary) Sniezyk and Dennis J. (Carol) Sniezyk, both of Broadalbin; five grandchildren, Sarah (Kenneth) Buniewski, Thomas (Carolyn) Sniezyk, Emily Sniezyk, Brent (Jana) Sniezyk, and Diane (Peter) Buanno; and four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Thomas Sniezyk, and Ella and Lillian Buanno. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 7 North Street, Broadalbin with the Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church or to the American Legion Auxiliary, both in care of the funeral home.
