Betty J. Birnbaum Burnt HillsBetty J. Birnbaum, 79, passed away July 19, 2012 after losing her 6 1/2 year battle with Alzheimer's disease at The Avenue Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Centre, Schenectady, NY, where she had been a resident for the past two years. Betty was a longtime resident of Scotch Bush Road, Burnt Hills, NY where she lived in the home her husband built for her. Betty grew up in Ballston Spa and was predeceased by her parents, Max and Elva Noyes (Ballston Spa, NY). She was also predeceased by her husband, Edmund Z. Birnbaum and sister, Beverly Sharadin of Ballston Spa. She is also survived by a daughter, Brenda A. Emanuele (Birnbaum) and her husband, Michael of Rotterdam; a son, Bruce E. Birnbaum of Burnt Hills; her granddaughters, Becci A. Strobeck of Syracuse (previously of Ballston Spa) and Carrie Jean Lewy (Eric) of Hoboken, NJ. Betty is also survived by her sister, Barbara Thompson (Ken) of Berryville, AR; her sister, Bev's husband, Kenneth Sharadin of Ballston Spa; her brother, Robert Noyes (Diane) of Avon Park, FL; and her brother, Clifford Noyes (Maureen) of Ballston Spa; and her sister-in-law, Ilene Smith of Delray Beach, FL. She was also predeceased by her loving companions, Clarence O. Kinney of Glenville, NY, (deceased 1990) and Peter L. Wallard of Schenectady (deceased 2011) and the children of her companions. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, as well as countless friends and neighbors. She was known as Aunt Betty to many or Betty Bee. She had a small home, but her door was always open. There was always enough room for everyone, and the coffee was always on. She met her husband Ed while waitressing in Burnt Hills. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing Scrabble with family and friends, loved watching the birds at her bird feeder, enjoyed going to bluegrass festivals and was enthusiastic about working at the rummage sales at the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church as well as attending the pancake suppers at the Old Stone Church in Ballston Spa. She was a wonderful mother and friend, and will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 4, at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 25 Hyde Blvd., Ballston Spa, NY, at 11 a.m. A celebration of Betty's life will follow at The Old Stone Church, Stone Church Road, Ballston Spa, NY. Burial will be at the Sweetman Cemetery, to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the , Hospice, The Ballston Spa United Methodist Church or The Old Stone Church.
