Beverly J. Akin Schaghticoke Beverly J. Akin, 49, of Madigan Road, died Sunday morning, June 9th, at home, after a 11-year battle with breast cancer, in the loving company of her family. Born in Niskayuna, July 26, 1963, she was the daughter of Dominick DeCocco of Princetown and the late Rita Seuling DeCocco. She was a 1981 graduate of Schalmont Central School. The director of financial services for the Golub Corp. of Schenectady, a position she rose to from starting as a clerk at age 16, she worked for 34 years, right up to the last couple of weeks. A former 4-H member, Bev loved caring for and riding horses all her life, especially Tucson and Hank and her deceased favorite, Dawny. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and following her sons' Motocross races. Akin's Angels was established early in Bev's battle with breast cancer as a fundraiser and way to raise awareness. Survivors, in addition to her father include her husband, David N. Akin, whom she married in 1996; sons, Raymond Gordon and Justin Akin; brothers, Steven (Laurie Keith) DeCocco of Princetown and Ronald (Yvonne) DeCocco of Duanesburg; her parents-in-law, Wayne and Helen Akin of Johnsonville; brother-in-law, Wayne (Debbie) Akin of Johnsonville; and sisters-in-law, Dianne (Dan) White of Melrose and Denise (Michael) Reilly of Valley Falls; along with nieces and nephews and many friends. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, Bridge St., Johnsonville, with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Beverly's family asks that remembrances be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, c/o Dr. Shapiro, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA, 02284, in loving memory of Beverly J.
