Carmela M. Ciervo RotterdamCarmela M. Ciervo (Sgarlata) passed into eternal life on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness. A longtime Rotterdam resident, Carmela was born on September 7, 1929, the daughter of the late Angelo and Providence (Bonsignore) Sgarlata. She was predeceased by her husband, Pasquale A. Ciervo, whom she married on June 24, 1951. Carmela attended Schenectady City Schools. After her husband's death in 1979, she was employed at the former Carl Company and then Sears for many years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She is survived by her four children: son, Frank A. Ciervo of Scotia, daughter, Karen Sue (Gary) Heidenstrom of Guilderland, son, Patrick A. Ciervo, and daughter, Rosanne P. Ciervo, both of Rotterdam; and her beloved grandchildren, Crystal L. Ciervo of Philadelphia, Patrick M. Ciervo of Rochester, and John P. and Kelsey R. Heidenstrom, both of Guilderland. Carmela is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Marie Sgarlata of Rotterdam and Rose M. Ciervo of Schenectady; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Carmen S. Sgarlata (Anna) and Anthony B. Sgarlata. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 6 at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pleasant Street, on Wednesday, August 7 at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery. For those wishing to do so, the family requests Mass cards from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Carmela's name to The .
