Charlotte J. Gardinier AmsterdamCharlotte J. Gardinier, 87, of Amsterdam, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Born October 11, 1925, the daughter of William J. Sr. and Grace (Uhlinger) Orth, she was a lifelong area resident and a 1943 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. As a young adult she worked at Kresge's Department Store; played in the Kennyetto Fyfe and Drum Corps; and sang in a band at area clubs. After her marriage to Kenneth l. Gardinier on July 17,1948, she was a homemaker, PTA mom, and Cranesville Youth Commission leader. Her hobbies included baking, sewing, knitting, golfing, bowling and gardening. She was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed being scorekeeper for her husband's and children's ball games. Later in life, she worked at Capital District OTB until she retired in 1987. Charlotte was a member of the Amsterdam Couple's and Women's Inter-county golf leagues and the Community Mixed and Gasoline Alley bowling leagues. She was a member and former deacon of the United Presbyterian Church. Her love of music led her to participate in the United Presbyterian adult choir, bell choir, and Mohawk Valley Chorus. She made several trips to Europe with the MVC, performing in concerts and visiting tourist attractions. Charlotte is survived by two sons, James Gardinier (Laura) of Scotia and Timothy Gardinier (Jaimie) of Amsterdam; one daughter, Karen Jurcsak (Mike) of Amsterdam; and one sister, Elizabeth Mabie of Garden Grove, CA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Melissa, Sarah, James, Kenzie, and Rex; along with nieces, nephews and dear friends. Charlotte was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth on July 28, 1989. She was also predeceased by her infant daughter, Nancy Carol; one sister, Margaret Rector; and one brother, William Orth. Her love of life and support of family and friends will be missed by all who knew her. She will always be in our hearts. Special thanks to the staff of Wilkinson RHCF. Their care of Charlotte and family support is greatly appreciated. Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in the West Charlton Cemetery.
