Chauncey B. 'Tom' Wainwright SchoharieChauncey B. Tom Wainwright, 93, of Eastern Ave., passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 8th at his home with his family's support beside him. Tom was born September 20, 1919 in Cobleskill, NY, a son of Daniel and Rose (VanBuren) Wainwright. He was educated in the Gallupville Schoolhouse and began working in area farms. He would later enlist in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1943. Tom returned to Schoharie County and began working at the former Howes Cave Cement Plant. He served as a laborer, repairman and inspector before his retirement in 1979 after 35 years of service. Mr. Wainwright was a member of the former American Legion Post #1261. He enjoyed raising and showing his chickens and was very proud of his '69 Road Runner, however, his great joy in life was the love for his family. Survivors include his wife, Mabel (Clapper) Wainwright whom he married October 30, 1943; his children, Pat (Donald) Markle, Daniel Boney (Paula) Wainwright and Richard Rick (Kim) Wainwright, all of Howes Cave and Bonnie (Jim) Snyder of Middleburgh; two sisters, Viola Kearney of Gallupville and Amelia Pete Liddle of Schoharie; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by two sons, Robert in 1991 and Chauncey in 2008; along with his siblings, Eva Killmartin, Lillian Pork Lockwood, Freeman, and William Tink. A visitation period will be held on Saturday, January 12th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. from the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main St., Schoharie. Burial will be at a later date in the Lutheran Cemetery, Schoharie. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Wainwright to Scho-Wright Ambulance Service, PO Box 325, Schoharie, NY 12157.
