Claire Slater Carpenter Obituary
Claire Slater Carpenter, age 86, of Somerset, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 11, 2018, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. She was born on August 18, 1931 in Ossining, New York, daughter of the late Reginald S. Slater and Marion I. Beers. Claire was a graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and worked as a Social Worker and Domestic Engineer for a number of years, prior to her retirement. She had a genuine passion for human services and was a volunteer for the Community Human Services agency in Burnt Hill, New York. After moving to Somerset, Claire united with the First Christian Church and was active in the choir and various committees of the church. In her leisure, she enjoyed knitting, square dancing, bowling, and was a charter member of the Lake Cumberland Chorale. Claire was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devout Christian and was always willing to help others. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her. Claire was married on February 6, 1954 to Richard Carpenter in Ossining, New York. They have enjoyed 64 years of life together. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Slater, who died in infancy.She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Richard Carpenter of Somerset; a daughter, Catherine A. (George) Baribeault of Stanford, Kentucky; and a son, Roger (Roxane) Carpenter of Valatie, New York; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Family and Friends will gather for a Visitation on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and a Memorial Service at 4 p.m., in the Chapel of The First Christian Church, 1115 Highway 39, Somerset, Kentucky 42503 with Rev. Michael Gatton and Rev. Steve Lesher officiating. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made as contributions to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund or the in Memory of Mrs. Claire Slater Carpenter.
