DAVID COOK Obituary

David L. Cook, 33, of Middle Grove, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 12, 2011 as a result of a vehicular collision. Born in Niskayuna, NY, November 16, 1977, he is the beloved son of William B. Cook and Christine Smith Cook of W. Milton. David was employed by Electric Boat at the W. Milton Kesselring Site. Working as a union boilermaker, David was a member of Local 5 Zone 197, serving as an elected trustee since 2008. Local 5 represent Boilermakers from Long Island, NYC, Albany and Oswego. David was a highly respected member of his craft. Having completed his apprenticeship, he had over eight years in the trade. David was Albany's first apprentice to compete in the apprenticeship competition. Placing 2nd in the regional competition, he earned a place at the national contest, bringing recognition to the Albany Training Center. He volunteered weekly at the Albany Training Center for Boilermakers - constantly working to improve the facility as well as recruit and train new members. David served as the head of the safety program at Electric Boat, committed to securing the ongoing safety of his fellow workers. David's love and commitment to the boilermakers was surpassed only by his love of music, classic cars, engines and his 1968 Thunderbird. David earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Galway Troop #5. David is survived by his parents and his brother, Brian Cook (Erin Keenan Cook) Galway; a sister, Sara Cook (Justin Orcutt) W. Milton; grandmother, Jane E.
