Edward P. Carroll Tarpon Springs, FL Edward P. Carroll, 59, of Tarpon Springs, FL and formerly of Silver Spring, MD and Altamont, NY, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014. A native son of Rotterdam, NY, Ed lived his life outdoors, working and playing and living life to the fullest. Many of us know him as an avid fisherman, competing in the Bass Master Tour, guiding fishing trips or just jumping in his bass boat on a brisk, early morning. He was a past member of the Capital BassMasters of New York and Fish-On Bass Anglers in Montgomery County, Maryland. Ed fished throughout the East Coast from New England to Florida and participated in tournament fishing as recently as March 8. There weren't many outdoor activities he wouldn't take on and he tried his hand at everything from motocross and flat track racing to scuba diving and archery. His lifelong dream was to live in a warm climate where he could fish, play golf and be outside all-year-round. He accomplished that dream this past year when he moved to Tarpon Springs. His work life was outside as well. He was a brother of Ironworkers Local 12 in NY for over 30 years, following his father in the trade. He recently retired as a field superintendent in Ironworkers Local 16 in Maryland. On the job, Ed was known to be a straight-shooting, get-the-job-done leader, who worked hard and expected as much from everyone else. Ed didn't go through life quietly. Whatever circle he was in, he was often known as the mayor, the guy who knew everyone and was involved in everything. He was never short of stories, and often held court while whipping up food for family and friends. Most importantly to Ed's legacy, he was a loving son, husband, father, big brother, companion and friend. Ed is survived by his mother, Marilyn Carroll and predeceased by his father, Edward L. Carroll. He is also survived by his children, Scott and Katie Carroll; their mother and his former wife of many years, Patricia (Spoonogle) Carroll; his companion of the last five years, Terri Johnson, who helped realize the dream of living in Florida; his siblings, Kevin (Kathy) Carroll, Patrick (Janine) Carroll and Kelly (Jim) Healy; and his cousin and friend, Jim (Joannie) Draper. The family plans to celebrate Ed's life at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave, Schenectady on Thursday with a 4 p.m. funeral service followed by a visitation until 7 p.m. Friends are welcome to attend and share a story about Ed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to either the , 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 or the Double H. Ranch (Waterfront), 97 Hidden Valley Rd., Lake Luzerne, NY 12846 in Ed's honor. Although, he never had the chance to say it, his family and friends are pretty sure his parting words to them would have been, gone fishing.
