Harold F. "Hap" Cross Jr. Obituary
Harold F. "Hap" Cross, Jr., 93, of Grosvenor's Corners Road, died May 15th at his home under the care of family and hospice.Hap was born October 6, 1924 in Athens, NY, a son of Harold F. and Leah Mae (Leach) Cross. He attended Schoharie and Greenville High Schools. He later enlisted in the US Army Air Force from 1945 to 1948 and again in the US Army from 1948 to 1951 serving in Korea. Upon his honorable discharge, Hap returned to his native Schoharie County and began working as a mechanic for the former Northeast Motors in Central Bridge, then Walter Truck in Guilderland, then Consolidated Diesel in Schenectady, and finally retired from NYS DOT in Waterford in 1989. Hap was a life member of the Central Bridge Fire Department and was a member of the VFW Post#5088 in Cobleskill. Hap enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife Ada, and attending NASCAR races.He married Ada M. (Holmes) Cross on August 21, 1971. She predeceased him on April 24, 2013.Survivors include his children, Jeanna (Bill) Kern of VA, Alberta Cross of FL, Chris (Roberta) Cross of Central Bridge and Richard Cross of Delmar, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by one son, Harold "Pete" Cross in 2015.A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19th at the Langan Funeral Home, 195 North Main St., Central Bridge followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Central Bridge Cemetery.
