Harriet May Baumes Obituary
Harriet May Baumes (nee Douglas), born October 19, 1922, passed away on December 26, 2018 in Scranton, Pennsylvania at the age of 96. Harriet was born in Colonie and raised in Guilderland, NY where she spent most of her life before moving to Pennsylvania. She graduated from Altamont High School in 1940. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles L. and Mabel (nee Hine) Douglas; her siblings, Kenneth, Charles, and Constance; and her former husbands, John Walsh and Harry Baumes Sr. She is survived by her children, Dr. David (Judy) Walsh of Spotsylvania, VA, Dr. Harry (Sue) Baumes Jr. of Glen Mills, PA, Sandra (David) Beyer of Richmond, VA, Kevin (Terry) Baumes of Waverly, PA, and Michael (Linda) Baumes of Altamont, NY; as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Dudziec of Guilderland, NY and five nieces. The holidays were always an important time for Harriet as she enjoyed decorating, cooking and baking for her family. Harriet loved music, especially Dean Martin, and was an avid pinochle player. In her younger days, Harriet worked for Delight Cleaners at the Albany County Airport as well as delivered newspapers for the Albany Times Union. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Altamont, NY in March with a reception to follow. She will be interred at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain View Care Center for the care they gave to Harriet the past four years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to in Harriet's name.
