James E. Douglas AmsterdamJames E. Douglas, 66, of Sylvia Lane, Amsterdam, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Amsterdam on March 9, 1948, to the late Walter and Ann Jozaipaitis Douglas. He was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, class of 1966. He graduated with a degree in accounting from Siena College and was also a graduate of the General Electric Financial Management Program. Mr. Douglas first worked as an accountant for the McDonald's Corporation in Albany, NY. He then went to work for General Electric and GE Corporate Research and Development Center in Niskayuna where he held various positions in finance. He retired in March of 2013 from Bechtal Marine Propulsion Corporation, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory serving as KAPL's Capital Equipment Financial Representative and as a senior financial analyst. He was a loving husband, son, grandson and son-in-law. He was a selfless individual who always put others before himself. He had a passion for travel and cruising and was always planning his next trip. He was fortunate to visit many countries across five continents and cruise to several unique ports of call. James was an avid sports fan. He especially loved watching football and his favorite team, the Oakland Raiders. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol Palombi Douglas, who he married on June 29, 1974. He is also survived by his brother, Attorney Robert Douglas of California; his mother and father-in-law, Grace and Alfred Palombi; his Godsons, Attorney John Smrtic and Matthew Greco; his sister-in-law, Belinda Douglas; his two special little cousins who he adored, Katie and Patrick Mc Mahon; aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. James was predeceased by his brother, David Douglas. He was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. James was blessed to have a wonderful team of doctors through his five year battle with cancer, Dr. Michael Sheridan, Dr. Patrick Parisi, Dr. Robert Goslin and Dr. Brian McDonald. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main St., Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
