John Vance Goldthwaite Stillwater, MNBeloved husband, father, grandfather, dear friend, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 17, 2013. Preceded in death by wife, Susan and sister, Joan Wheeler. Survived by daughter, Sarah Thompson (Rob); son, John Jr. (Susie); brother, William (Johnetta); sister, Ginevra Finch; grandchildren, Brody, Ken, Gwendolyn, Shaylyn, and Moses; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Shophia, and Alaina. John was born in Springfield, VT. He grew up in Chester, VT and graduated from Becker College in Worcester, MA. In 1946 he married Susan Stewart, also of Chester, VT. He moved to Schenectady, NY in 1948, where they raised their two children. John was employed for 38 years as an accountant/auditor with General Electric (Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory) in Schenectady, NY. He was very active in and a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. He taught downhill skiing, coached Little League baseball, and was an active participant in his men's golf and bowling leagues. John was a WWII veteran, having successfully completed 50 combat missions with the Army Air Forces Mediterranean Theatre of Operations. In the summer of 2010, John and his wife relocated to Stillwater, MN and were residents of Boutwell's Landing. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 29th, 1 p.m. at Boutwell's Landing Swanson Family Chapel, 5590 Norwich Parkway, Oak Park Heights, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in the fall in Chester, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor's choice.
