Karen Ann (Eichelberger) Yagielski HalfmoonKaren Ann (Eichelberger) Yagielski, 69, passed away February 1, 2014 at her home in Halfmoon, NY with her husband and six children by her side. Karen was born in Olean, NY to Ethelyn and Russell Eichelberger on November 4, 1944. Like so many others born during World War II, Karen lost her father when he was killed while flying a bombing mission over Europe in July 1944. An excellent student, Karen was valedictorian of Friendship High School in Friendship, NY. She went on to earn a BA with honors, majoring in mathematics and physics from SUNY Geneseo. At a time when not many women were working in math, science and technology, Karen went to work for the Eastman Kodak Company as a systems analyst in 1966. It was at Kodak where she met her husband, John Yagielski. They married in Rochester in 1968 and Karen began the greatest adventure of her life, building and nurturing her family. She excelled as the director of Family Development. Karen was an avid runner and history buff. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, hiking, and knitting/baking for her children and grandchildren. Karen is survived by her loving husband; six grateful children, John (Pam) of Scotia, Janine (Michael Gauss) of Rochester, David (Nilam) of Buffalo, Susan of Schenectady, Sandra (Brian) Rauber of Amherst, Thomas (Gretchen) of Forest Hill; nine amazing grandchildren; and her sister, Nancy (Charles) Madison of Spokane, WA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a remembrance at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, New York on Saturday, February 8th from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen's memory to the Shenendehowa Educational Foundation (www.shenedfoundation.org), the Greece Education Foundation (www.greecegiving.com), the Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation (www.scsdeducationfoundation.org), or your own public school district's educational foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, New York 12065 emerickfh@aol.com.
