Lynne McIlravy-Ackert Obituary
Lynne Marie McIlravy-Ackert. On January 10, 2019, the world lost a shining light, a superlative mother, loving wife, true friend, devoted sister, doting aunt and faithful cousin, after a long battle with liver disease and kidney failure. Lynne was born in Poughkeepsie, New York to the late Gilbert and Evelynne (Luty) McIlravy on October 23, 1949. A graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Lynne went on to study Business at Albany Business College, and later earned her degree in Accounting from Marist College in Poughkeepsie. In August of 1981, she met the love of her life, Richard Ackert, and later that year they were married in the Marist Chapel. Lynne and Richard moved to the Capital District in 1982, and in 1986, they welcomed their daughter, Olivia Halley, into the world. Lynne subsequently worked for Traveler's Insurance on Wolf Road for 17 years, and later for 14 years with the City of Schenectady Police Department as their Purchasing Coordinator. She had a great affection for all the sworn and civilian personnel at the Department, and was blessed to work with an array of amazing administrators. As a volunteer, Lynne devoted many hours to the Capital District Youth Chorale as Uniform Chairperson, to St. John the Evangelist Elementary School as Homeroom Mom and other assignments, as Uniform Chair for the Schenectady High School Choirs. Lynne treated each member of these groups with the same care and concern she gave to her own daughter. Her eye for detail and tireless energy were instrumental in keeping the groups looking as good as they sounded. Lynne loved to entertain at her home, and her parties, especially her Halloween parties, were the highlight of the year for many of her friends. She decorated with classic style and never failed to welcome anyone who came to her home as a friend. An avid reader, she also found great camaraderie as a member of the Page Turners Book Club. As a mother, wife, and friend, there is or was no equal. Lynne leaves behind to grieve and miss her, Richard, her devoted husband of 37 years; her talented and beautiful daughter, Olivia Halley - who was the absolute light of her life; brother John (Lisa) McIlravy of Poughkeepsie; sister Jan (John) Riccardo of Schenectady; and brother Bruce (Kelly) McIlravy of Hyde Park. Lynne is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and cherished friends throughout the area and across the country. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Wednesday, January 16 at 1 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home. Lynne requested that in your charitable giving, you consider a gift to The American Liver Foundation or the .
