Mary E. "Betty" Manso, 90, of South Third Ave., died Tuesday morning, Dec. 6, at her daughter's home in Manlius, NY, after a short illness. Born in Whitehall, August 7, 1921, daughter of the late Francis and Margaret Whalen Ahern, Betty grew up, attended schools and lived most of her life in Mechanicville. A seasonal clerk with the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance, Betty also had worked for Pricechopper Mkts, Norton Co. and years ago for the former National Cash Register Co. Years ago, during her first year of playing golf, she scored a hole-in-one at Mechanicville Golf Club and she also enjoyed the Women's Bocchi Ball league. A communicant of All Saints on the Hudson Church, a member of the Mechanicville Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, Betty loved being with family and friends, and was especially proud of her grandchildren and their families. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Benjamin Manso, who died Oct. 13, 2007, her son, Francis "Butch" Manso, and son-in-law, Joseph Miller; along with brothers, William and John "Jiggs" Ahern. Survivors include daughters, Barbara Miller of New Canaan, CT, Peggy (Joseph) DeChiro of Mechanicville, Kathleen (Dennis) Buckley of Salem, MA, Patrice (Tom) Smith of Simsbury, CT, and Beth (Dr. Dan) Wnorowski of Manlius; her son, Paul (Tracy) Manso of West Allenhurst, NJ, 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 a.m. at the All Saints on the Hudson South Church, (St. Paul's), 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in Saratoga National Cemetery.Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So.
