Mary K. Phillips Obituary
Mary K. Phillips, 90, of Ash Meadows Lane, Town of Cobleskill, died Monday evening, July 9, 2018, at Palatine Nursing Home where she had resided since June.Mrs. Phillips was born May 19, 1928, in Troy, NY, a daughter of Herbert M. and Winifred L. (Keeler) Mapes. She graduated from the Milne School in Albany and in 1950 from Cornell University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in sociology. She assisted her husband in his veterinary practice in Richmondville for many years before their retirement. She was also a longtime member of the Richmondville United Methodist Church, serving on the board, as financial secretary, and in other capacities. She was devoted to her family, active in genealogical research, and interested in efforts to preserve local history, including the Richmondville Historical Society. Among her other volunteer and civic activities, she was a member of the Bloodstone Unit of the Cobleskill hospital auxiliary, a member of the Richmondville Central School board in the 1960s, and a board member of the Schoharie County ARC from 1975 to 1987. She married Seeley M. Phillips, DVM, on August 6, 1949. He predeceased her on July 25, 2009.Survivors include their children, Barbara Ruth Phillips Long (the late David Long) of Shiremanstown, PA, Carl Harry Phillips (Barbara Morrill) of Waldwick, NJ, Thomas Richard (Margaret) Phillips of East Schodack, NY, Doris Elizabeth (David) Leverett of Carlisle, NY, and William Edward (Korene) Phillips of Denville, NJ; nine grandchildren, Alison Long (Leigh) Koven, Owen Long, Andrew Phillips, Edward Phillips, Glenn Phillips, Beth Leverett (Kevin) Haas, Timothy (Morgan) Leverett, and Phillip Leverett; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha Haas and Madison and Hailey Leverett. She is also survived by her brother, Donald (Joan) Mapes of Macomb, IL; along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families, and her dear friend, Ellen Leverett. Besides her husband, Mary was predeceased by her granddaughter, Erica Phillips, and her siblings, Robert and Lawrence Mapes and Elizabeth Mapes Nielsen Zaccarro.Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, at the Richmondville United Methodist Church, 268 West Main St., Richmondville, NY, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. Burial will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Monday, July 16.Memorial contributions may be made either to the Richmondville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, Richmondville, NY 12149 or to the Schoharie County ARC, P.O. Box 307, Schoharie, NY 12157.The Robert A.
