Matthew J. Kiley StillwaterMatthew J. Kiley, 95, of No. Hudson Ave., died Friday, May 10 at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, after a short illness. Born in Mechanicville, July 29, 1917, he was son of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Facto Kiley. During WWII, Matt proudly served in the US Army's 929th Field Artillery Battalion of the 104th Infantry Division, the Timberwolves, serving on the front lines in France and Holland, during the Allies' push into Germany. He was honorably discharged after VE Day. A plumbing and heating specialist for most of his life, Matt started with T.B. Nolan and later the Toombs Family Plumbing Concerns. Later he worked for Mintzer Petroleum and retired in 1979 after 10 years with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy. Matt was reportedly the oldest continuous member (65 years) of Post 490 American Legion of Stillwater. Survivors include his wife of over 59 years, Mary Hayner Kiley; daughters, Sharon Kiley of Schenectady, Linda (Tim Sr.) Shudt of Moreau; a son, William (Kelly) Kiley of Hampton, NH; grandchildren, Steven Kiley, Sarah (Lance) MacIntosh, Allison Shudt and Timothy Shudt, Jr.; along with nieces, nephews and their families. Matt was predeceased by brothers, Paul Kiley and twin, Lawrence Kiley, Jr.; and twin sisters, Mary Kiley Capeci and Agnes Kiley. Matt donated his body to the Anatomical Gift program at Albany Medical Center, to further advance medical and future doctors' training. A memorial service will be held at the Stillwater United Church, Saturday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. At a later date, entombment services with military honors will be held at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Matt's family asks that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to either the Stillwater Rescue Squad or the American Legion Post 490, Stillwater, in respectful memory of Matthew J. Kiley.
