Paul R. Close Tomball, TXPaul R. Close, 86, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2014 at the Tomball Regional Medical Center in Tomball, Texas. His loving family was by his side. Born in Schenectady, NY on April 14, 1927, he was the son of the late William H. and Edna Hersey Close. Paul is a veteran of the United States Navy and worked for a short time at the Navy Depot. He worked in construction for over 30 years at Cushings Stone Co. and was a member of the Teamster's #294 of Albany. He retired in 1996. Paul also served as past chief and charter member of the Galway Volunteer Fire Department. After the passing of his wife, he moved to Texas to stay with his daughter Wendy, he finally got to enjoy the life of being a crafter, building things just for fun. He made doll houses, birdhouses and mailboxes. He loved music, played in many local bands, and was a square dance caller. Paul was united in marriage on September 27, 1953 to Joyce Faber; they shared a union of 56 years until her passing in 2010. His loving family includes daughter, Wendy (Bart) Riley of Tomball, TX; sons, Fred Close of Florida, William Close of Amsterdam, Paul (Elizabeth) Close of Amsterdam and Michael Close of Florida. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jessica Close, Robert Close, Tina Walden, Michael Close, Amber Close and Anthony Covey, along with several great-grandchildren. Paul's sister, June Bates, also survives. In addition to his wife, Joyce Close, he was predeceased by a daughter, Tina Close, who passed away in 1970. Family and friends will be invited to visit on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
