Raymond F. Shanahan Clifton ParkRaymond F. Shanahan, 97, of Clifton Park, NY passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Vermont Veterans Home. Ray was born Aug. 4, 1914 in Auburn, NY, the son of the late James E. and Margaret C. Polley Shanahan. He obtained his bachelor's degree in science from Syracuse University. He was a WWII Army veteran. He was employed at the General Electric Co. Research and Development as a science writer for over 30 years, until retiring. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Catherine E.; and a son, Mark C. Shanahan. He is survived by his stepchildren, Steven (Wanda) Minkler of Evans Mills and Constance Connie (Gerald) LaRose of Statesville, NC; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one daughter, Kathleen A. Valentino of Glenville. Funeral will be held Tuesday at 12 p.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9, Clifton Park prior to the Mass. Burial with military honors will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
