Raymond Oakley Barber, Jr. CobleskillRaymond Oakley Barber, Jr., 69, of North Grand Street, Cobleskill, died Friday, February 22nd at home supported by his family and friends. Ray was born August 11, 1944 in Cobleskill, a son of Raymond and Rose (Buffo) Barber, Sr. and was educated in Cobleskill School and later, Linton High School. He also received his electrician's license from SUNY Cobleskill. Ray served his country in the US Army as a Communications Technician from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1967. He worked at the former Burton Window Industries in Cobleskill and later, KPI in Howes Cave where he retired in 2003 as a maintenance supervisor. Ray was a member and supporter at the Middleburgh Rod & Gun Club, Richmondville Rod & Gun Club and Cobleskill Fish & Game. He was a Master Instructor for Sportsman Education and attended Cobleskill United Methodist Church. Ray was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and sharp shooting. Survivors include his wife, Connie (Travis) Barber, whom he married August 11, 1971; his sisters, Margaret Barber of Cobleskill, Mary Barber of Port Orange, Florida, Ginny Barber-France (Maver France) of Cobleskill and Rosalie (Alan) Danforth of Cobleskill; his brother, Fenton Barber of Cobleskill; a brother-in-law, Lawrence (Tracy) Travis of Cobleskill; a niece, Jessica and a nephew, Ernest Nick Nikolaus, along with several other nieces and nephews. A visitation period will be held from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 27th at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel Street, Cobleskill. A graveside service with military honors will be held later in the Bramanville Prospect Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ray to Catskill Area Hospice, 795 E.
