Richard Dykeman CarlisleRichard Dick Dykeman, 87, of VanDerwerken Road, Town of Carlisle, died Tuesday, October 29th at his home with his loving family Maria, Nick, and Sarah beside him. Dick was born April 5, 1926 in Schenectady, NY, a son of Cleveland and Anna (Sprague) Dykeman and attended Craig School in Schenectady, later working as caretaker of the horses for Freihofer's Bakery and also was a Pasteurizer for Bellevue Dairy in Schenectady. He was inducted into the US Army in 1944 where he faithfully served his country during WWII in the Philippines and Korea as a truck driver, tank driver and equipment operator until his honorable discharge in 1946. When returning to Upstate, NY, he began his career in carpentry, construction, transportation and farming. He worked with his brother doing interior decorating for many years and drove for Syrstone Co. in Randall and the Teamsters. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, cutting wood and anything associated with farming and the outdoors. Dick was a PUFL member of the former American Legion Post #1261 and the Timothy Murphy Post #248 in Middleburgh. Survivors include his wife, Maria C. (Rodriguez) Dykeman whom he married September 7, 1983; his children, Nicholas (Sarah) Dykeman of Sloansville, Bruce Dykeman of Port Orchard, Washington, Cynthia Dross of Plant City, FL, Richard Dykeman of Delaware and Marjorie Geiskopf of Sprakers; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Kelton of Glenville; along with several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six siblings; Claude, Ruth, Ed, Dorothy, Ernest, and Floyd. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 1st at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel Street, Cobleskill. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 2nd at the Sharon Cemetery in Leesville with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Dykeman to Catskill Area Hospice, 795 E. Main St. Suite #11, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
