RUTH SIMKINS Obituary

Ruth Simkins, 90, formerly of Scotia, NY, recently a resident of Schuyler Ridge, Clifton Park, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born on March 13, 1920 in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Mary Krug Briggs. She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Scotia High School class of 1938. Ruth was employed with General Electric in Schenectady until going to work with the Union Star Newspaper in Schenectady. She was a member of the Home Bureau, a life member of the local PTA, a 4H Leader for 10 years, a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scotia, and a member of the church's Altar Guild. Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased in 1984 by her husband of 43 years, Alfred Simkins; and her sister, Helen Engel. Survivors include her two sons, Robert Simkins of Fonda, and Richard (Kathleen) Simkins of Hamburg; four grandchildren, Michael (Dawn) Simkins, Jeffrey (Judy) Simkins, David (Michelle) Simkins, and Lori (Andre) Duval; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kylie, Ashley, Lindsey, Stefanie, Alyssa, and Derek; one niece, Nancy Ruckdeschel and several great-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 103 South Reynolds St., Scotia. Entombment will take place in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Community Hospice of Schenectady, or the American Cancer Society.
