Salvatore P. Mangano SchenectadySalvatore P. Mangano, age 92, entered into eternal life Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Josephine Morelli Mangano. Sam was a sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. He spent his last years happily reacquainting himself with friends and family after a long challenging period of being the primary caregiver for his beloved wife, Elvira. The family appreciates all the friendship extended to him by those he walked with at the mall and all those who met him for breakfast on Thursday mornings. Sam was always ready with a kind word or joke, he was a man who brought joy to all who knew him and he will be missed. Beloved husband of the late Elvira Gentiluomo Mangano; loving father of Salvatore Mangano and his wife, Laura of Rochester; cherished grandfather of Domenic Mangano and Jacob Mangano; brother of the late Guy Kit Mangano and his wife, Florence Babe, the late Mary Andriene and her husband, Joseph, the late Lucy DiLorenzo and her husband, Pat and the late Joseph Mangano. Sam is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Marlyn Mangano, and Phyllis Gentiluomo Capullo; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 5 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Saturday, 3 to 5 before the service. Entombment will be private in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
