Shirley M. Crandall RotterdamShirley M. Crandall, 84, of Rotterdam, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Scotia. Born in Schenectady, NY on April 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Catherine Hammond Nelson. Shirley was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Rotterdam. For 26 years, Shirley was employed with General Electric Co. as a drafting designer, until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York, Schenectady Chapter 641, and for 67 years was a member of the Danish Sisterhood of America Lodge #142. Married on November 6, 1946, Mrs. Crandall was predeceased by her husband, the late Robert Crandall, who passed in 2006. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara May (Bradley) Belfance of Schenectady, NY; grandsons, Bryan Belfance of Schenectady, Barry (Mary) Belfance of Florida, NY, and Brett Belfance of Schenectady; her nephew who was like a son, Charles (Starr) Lupton of Goldsboro, NC; great-grandson, Kyle Belfance of Florida, NY; also her adored canine companion, Myla. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 6th at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2850 Guilderland Ave., Rotterdam. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Scotia. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, November 5th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Baxter-Andrew Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, NY. To express condolences visit
