Thomas H. Fyfe AmsterdamMr. Thomas H. Fyfe, 85, of Rockton Street, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on July 14, 1927, he was the son of the late William and Rachel Chambers Fyfe. Thomas moved to Ireland at the age of five with his family. In 1946 he entered into the Royal Air Force in Belfast and was stationed in England and then Wales where he met the love of his life, and on September 27, 1949 he was united in marriage to the former Phyllis D. Hurley. In 1957 the couple settled in Amsterdam, NY where they raised a family. For many years Tom worked for Fiber Glass Industries as a machinist. He also was an officer for the International Paper Workers Union. Tom was an active member and past deacon of the United Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Amsterdam Masonic Lodge No. 84 F&AM. True to his heritage, he was also a proud member of the Schenectady Pipe Band where he was a drummer. Above all he loved and cherished his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Fyfe; two sons, David J. Fyfe and his wife, Diane and Raymond L. Fyfe and Nancy Thomson, all of Amsterdam, NY; one daughter, Sandra A. Ward and her husband, Christopher of Broadalbin, NY; six grandchildren, Andrew Fyfe and his wife, Kathleen, Heather Fyfe, Thomas Fyfe, Eric Fyfe, Kevin Ward and Kyle Ward; and two nieces, Colleen Tomek and Diane Depp. He was predeceased by a brother, A. Raymond Fyfe. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 1 o'clock at the United Presbyterian Church, Church Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Bonnie Orth presiding. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Saturday morning from 10 until 12 noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions in Thomas' memory may be made to the United Presbyterian Church or the Montgomery County SPCA in care of the funeral home office.
