Master Sergeant Victor S. Altieri Sr. Saratoga SpringsMaster Sergeant Victor S. Altieri Sr., United States Air Force, Retired, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the age of 82. Born on April 20, 1931, he was the son of the late Louis Altieri and Louise Henninger of Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was also preceded in death by a special daughter, Charlotte Altieri, and special brother, David Henninger. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Grace (Van Denburgh) Altieri; sons and significant others, Ralph (Judith Altieri), Victor Jr. (Marianne Altieri), Louis (Teresa Adinolfi), and Thomas (Jackie Hayes); granddaughters, Lynn Altieri-Need, Melissa Altieri, and Jennifer Altieri; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Molly and Fran Carroll of Trumbull, CT; sister-in-law, Rose Farrell and husband, Roy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Victor graduated from Harding High School in Bridgeport, class of 1949, and was an avid member of the Occuret Boys Club. He joined the Air Force in 1951, and shortly thereafter, he was assigned to the 656th Radar Squadron in the Saratoga Springs area where he met his wife. After serving at various radar sites across the northern United States and overseas for 21 years, he retired in June, 1972 and delved into civilian life by continuing his love for bowling and acquiring a passion for golf. Over the years he made numerous friends and acquaintances at area bowling alleys in the winter months and golf courses in the summer. His family extends a special thank you to the Red and Silver teams, the staff of the Cancer Care/Oncology Department, and Dr. Eugene Kim of the Albany Stratton Veterans Administration Hospital for the care they provided Victor and the care they provide our veterans. Additionally, the family is grateful for the comfort Victor received from the doctors and staff of the 3rd floor C wing at Saratoga Hospital, and all others who provided comfort and care during Victor's illness. Lastly, the family extends a very special thank you to Victor's neighbor, Maureen Nest, for her love, care, and friendship. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and burial with military honors will follow at 11 a.m. at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
