Waldo E. Chesnut Jr. SchenectadyWaldo Emerson Chesnut Jr., 83, of Delanson, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:02 a.m., December 1, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Princetown, NY on May 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Waldo E. Sr. and Bessie Ogden Chesnut. He was raised and educated in Duanesburg and continued his education at SUNY Cobleskill for Agriculture. During the Korean Conflict, Waldo proudly served with the United States Army. On August 7, 1954, he married Vivian A. Orelup and together raised their family in Duanesburg. Waldo was a lifelong member of Duanesburg Reformed Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of Calvary Tabernacle Church. Waldo was a hard working man and wore many hats throughout his career. Waldo worked for 17 years at Wendell Cadillac in Albany as a mechanic while also working on the family's farm. The Chesnut family moved to New Concord, OH, where they owned and operated Chesnut's Feed Mill and then moved back to Delanson where Waldo began Chesnut Construction and continued his business as a builder for many years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. On April 9, 2011, Waldo was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Vivian A. Chesnut. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Chesnut; his brother, Allen Chesnut; and two sisters, Carol Smith and Arlene Reid. He is survived by his son, John Chesnut of Rotterdam; his daughters, Joan Emlin and her husband, Daniel of Englewood, FL, Pastor Melodie Carlson and her husband, Pastor Kevin of Schenectady, Linda Naples of Niskayuna and Walda Chesnut Brownstein and her husband, Alex of Niskayuna; his brother, Robert (Roberta) Chesnut of Poultney, VT; his sister, Roberta Thomas and her husband Wayne of Flintstone, GA; his sister-in-law, Barbara Chesnut; his brothers-in-law, Jeff Smith and Robert Reid; grandchildren, Amy (Barry King) Lemmerman, Jesse (Sarah) Chesnut, Michael (Heidi) Carlson, Bethany (John) Hoyt, Justin Carlson, Hannah Naples, Carly Naples, and Amelia Brownstein; six great-grandchildren, Vaughn, Vanashia, Gavin, Vayden, Ethan, Ireland, Jaxson Waldo and Jaelani; and several special nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Duanesburg Reformed Presbyterian Church, 6512 Western Tpk. (Rt. 20), Duanesburg, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady.
