William A. Walz Obituary
William August Walz, 94, a lifelong resident of Glenville, died June 3, 2018 at the Glendale Home.Born at home in 1923, in Glenville, he was the son of the late Carl Walz and Bertha Emma (Recheizer) Walz.After graduating from Scotia High School in 1941, Bill started working for General Electric. He joined the U. S. Army in 1943. He was first stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. While home on furlough, he married Catherine E. Praetorius, on October 19, 1944. She was the daughter of the late John H. Praetorius and Gertrude C. Matthews, formerly of Glenville. He went through further training and was transferred to the European Theater for the duration of the war.Upon his return to the States in 1946, he went back to work at G.E. and was employed at various times as a tinsmith, welder, and pattern maker. He retired in 1983. Bill and Catherine enjoyed spending time with friends, particularly square dancing with the Merry Mixers. They also traveled throughout the US, Canada, and Europe.On 13 January 2003, he was preceded in death by Catherine. They had been married 58 years. He was also preceded in death by two half siblings, Olga E. (Hoffman) Pohl, and Otto F. Hoffman, both of Glenville.William is survived by two sons, David J. and his wife, Janice of Scotia, and Dan W. and his wife, Diane of Ballston Lake; five grandchildren, Jeremy D. Walz and his girlfriend, Bailey Patterson, Nathan M. Walz and his wife, Karen, Erica M. Walz and her husband, Kevin Johnston, Garrett S. Walz and his wife, Sharon, and Tyler A. Walz and his wife, Shawna; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.At Bill's request, there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.Funeral arrangements are by the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Inc.Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Scotia.Contributions in William's memory may be made to The Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.
