Bernardi (Ben) Gabriele SchenectadyBernardi (Ben) Gabriele, 84, entered into eternal life peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. He was the son of the late Felice and Poalina Gabriele. He is survived by his younger brother, Vincent (Louise) Gabriele; their daughter, Paulette; and predeceased by his nephew, Vinnie. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School, attended Siena College and completed the General Electric Apprenticeship Program. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifelong communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife, Alma; together they shared 53 wonderful years; his daughter, Gina (Ken) Alvord of Schenectady and their children, Jilda and Cole; his son, Bernardi (Terry) and their children, Michael, Lauren and Carly; and his son, John (his fiancee, Megan), and her daughter, Marisa. Ben lovingly known as Beebop could always be found with Alma by his side, spending most nights watching their beloved Yankees or an occasional Red Sox game. He enjoyed many retired mornings of golf at Schenectady Muni where he once scored a hole-in-one off of Benny's Nob on the 17th hole. Ben loved spending time with his children and grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face, filled his days with laughter and made his heart swell with pride. He was a humble man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures; family dinners, time spent at camp on Sacandaga Lake, puttering around the house or watching one of his grandchildren's athletic or social events. His family feels blessed by the many life lessons that Ben and Alma have instilled and they realize that his legacy will be in carrying on these lessons. Services will be held at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway at Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady and at 12:30 p.m., St. John the Evangelist Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church or Community Hospice of Schenectady. The family would like to thank the staff of New York Oncology, Ellis Infusion Center and Sloan Kettering. To leave online condolences please visit www.bondfunerahome.com.
