Charles E. Cresswell Jr. Burnt HillsCharles E. Cresswell Jr., 78, of Forest Rd., died on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY. He was born on June 26, 1935 in Auburn, NY and was the son of the late Charles E. and Florence (Lane) Cresswell Sr. Charles was raised in Gouverneur, NY for 14 years until his father was transferred to the Newberry's store in Plymouth, NH. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School, accepted on the GE Apprentice Program in Somersworth, NH and earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Hampshire. He traveled three years on the manufacturer's training program until settling with a career in Schenectady, NY with General Electric Co. He retired as a steam turbine unit manager at GE after 36 years of employment. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Ballston Lake, NY. Charles was active in youth baseball in Burnt Hills, NY for over 20 years and enjoyed managing teams and being equipment manager for the league. He served on the board of directors for the American Amateur Baseball Congress. He enjoyed skiing and for two years; he was president of the Hickory Ski Center in Warrensburg. Charles was lovingly known by his family and friends as the World's Biggest St. Louis Cardinals Fan. He was the beloved husband of Betty M. (Hawkins) Cresswell, his wife of 56 years; devoted father of Cathy Lynn Leggett of Mechanicville, Kenneth E. Cresswell of Cazenovia, NY and David H. Cresswell of Waterford, NY; loving grandfather of John, Steven and Evan Leggett, Christopher and Michael Cresswell and Lexi and Nicholas Stack; caring brother of Jane Cresswell of Silver Lake, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Grace Church. The family extends with heartfelt gratitude their thanks to all who were involved with the care and love that was given to Charles during his residence at the Maplewood Manor Nursing Home.
