Frank R. Godlewski AmsterdamMr. Frank R. Godlewski, 86, of Division Street, Amsterdam, died peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital with his family by his side after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Schenectady, New York, he was the son of the late Frank Godlewski and Ida Matchkovich. A lifelong area resident, Frank grew up in Schenectady and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. He later attended St. Bonaventure College where he earned a bachelor's degree and studied law for a short time. Frank started his career with Goodyear Tire Company for 11 years, working on the East Coast and out in Arizona. He later was employed by Bishop Gibbons High School in Schenectady as a physical education teacher and football coach. He also owned and operated Longwood Press in Amsterdam. He also served proudly in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps. Frank was an avid bowler for many years scoring a perfect 300 game and playing in many tournaments and leagues. Survivors include his wife, Edith Greenspan Godlewski; two sons, Richard (Louise) Godlewski and Mark (Sonny) Godlewski; one daughter, Catherine Godlewski and Brett Green; four grandchildren, Sara, Elizabeth, Theresa and John; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Dorothy Dewey and Patricia Skoog. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11 o'clock at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. John Medwid as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. His remains will be placed in the Columbarium Wall at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
