Mary Parlapiano Frederick AmsterdamMary Parlapiano Frederick, 84, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 1, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with her loving family at her side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 11, 1929, a daughter of the late Joseph and Pasqualina Bochicchio Parlapiano. She lived in Amsterdam for most of her life. Mary was a 1947 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. She went on to graduate from Albany Business College in 1949 with a certificate in accounting. She was first employed at the former Lederley Pharmaceutical Company in Pearl River, NY. Mary then worked for Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam and last as bookkeeper for the Parish of St. Joseph, St. Michael and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, retiring in 1999. Mary was devoted to her church. She was a parishioner of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and currently of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, the Convent Auxiliary, church choir, Parish Council and was a religious education teacher. While raising her children Mary also devoted her time to the PTA and was a Girl Scout leader. On June 11, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Richard Frederick. He passed away in November of 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Green and Tina (Robert) Bielawa, both of Amsterdam; two sisters, Eleanor and Joanne Parlapiano of Amsterdam; four grandsons, Jason Green, Thomas Joseph (T.J.) Green, Richard Ricky Green and Nicholas Bielawa. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by a sister, Gloria Coager on September 20, 2011. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday March 4, 2014, at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam with Father Lawrence J. Decker presiding. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, NY 12010. Envelopes are available at the funeral home office for your convenience.
